Opening a bank account before vs after landing — did it actually save you time?

Some banks let you set up an account online from your home country before you land. Was that actually worth doing, or just as easy in person after arrival?

I did the pre-arrival online setup and it genuinely saved me a full afternoon in my first week, just had to bring my passport/study permit to a branch once to finish activation.
