How the MaplePath community works

MaplePath is a place to ask questions and share real experience about studying, working, and getting permanent residence in Canada β€” from people actually going through it, not generic advice. Here's how it's put together.

Your path from Newcomer to Explorer

Join free as a Newcomer (0 pts).

  2. Get started

  4. Unlock all boards

  5. Keep leveling up

    Helper β†’ Guide β†’ Mentor β†’ Pathfinder.

Boards

A board is where a post lives β€” Express Entry, PNP Β· Ontario, Study, Work/PGWP, General, and the province-by-province Living in Canada boards. Some boards are Q&A (you ask a question, people answer, and you can mark one a Best Answer); others are discussion boards for open conversation with no single "correct" answer. Every board is readable by anyone, including logged-out visitors β€” you only need an account to post.

Points & levels

Every real contribution earns points: asking a question, answering, getting an upvote, and β€” the big one β€” having your answer marked the Best Answer (+15 points). Points add up to a contribution level, shown as the colored ring around your avatar: Newcomer β†’ Explorer β†’ Helper β†’ Contributor β†’ Guide β†’ Mentor β†’ Pathfinder. Levels are earned, never bought, and reflect real, sustained contribution β€” see the full breakdown on the Levels page.

The Explorer gate β€” why new accounts start with limited posting

Joining and participating is instant β€” there's no waiting period to sign up, read, ask a question, or use the tools. But posting on the main journey boards (Express Entry, PNP, Study, Work/PGWP) opens up once you reach Explorer (100 points), which most genuinely-engaged new members reach the same day or the next. Until then, you have full access to the Start Here/Welcome board, can ask questions everywhere, and can use every tool and guide. This gate exists to keep spam and low-effort posting off the main boards β€” it is not a paywall, and it never restricts reading.
