No rent control in Alberta — so my landlord can raise my rent by any amount, whenever they want?

The amount really is uncapped, but the timing isn't a free-for-all — a landlord still can't increase rent more than once every 365 days since your last increase (or since your tenancy started), and must give proper written notice first: 90 days for most periodic tenancies, or 3 full tenancy months for a month-to-month lease. And if you're in a fixed-term lease, rent generally can't change mid-term at all unless your written lease specifically allows it. So "any amount" is true, "whenever they want" isn't — the notice and frequency rules still apply. Worth checking your actual lease wording and the Residential Tenancies Act directly if this comes up.
