Ontario changed the driver's licence exchange rules — does my country still need to retest?

It's specifically for non-reciprocal countries, so this is the change that matters to you. Effective July 1, 2026, if your country doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with Ontario, you can get credit for up to 12 months of driving experience toward the graduated-licensing wait by providing your valid foreign licence plus an official authentication letter from your home country's licensing authority — you'll still need to pass the vision, knowledge, and G2 road tests, then wait out the (shortened) period before the full G test.
