Is a co-op work permit separate from my study permit, or the same document?

sanju_devstudent
My diploma program has a mandatory co-op term. Do I need to apply for a separate work permit for that, and does that co-op time count toward anything later?

Usually a co-op work permit is issued alongside your study permit as part of the same application if co-op is a mandatory, integral part of your program โ€” check the back of your study permit for wording like "co-op work permitted." It's a separate authorization from the 20-hour off-campus cap, but it generally does NOT count toward PGWP length or the Canadian work experience Express Entry wants โ€” that clock really starts after graduation with the PGWP itself. General information from my own experience, not legal advice โ€” for anything specific to your file, a licensed RCIC or immigration lawyer can look at your actual documents.
