LMIA explained like I'm five — do I need my employer to "get" one for me?

It's the employer's process, not yours — a Labour Market Impact Assessment is essentially the employer proving to Employment and Social Development Canada that they couldn't reasonably fill the role with a Canadian/PR first, which is what lets them hire a foreign worker under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (as opposed to International Mobility Program job offers, which don't need one).
