Understanding your MPNP score
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is Manitoba's route to permanent residence for skilled workers. Its main economic stream, Skilled Worker, has two pathways: Skilled Worker in Manitoba (for people already working in the province) and Skilled Worker Overseas (for people abroad or in Canada with a strong Manitoba connection). Overseas applicants must pass a 100-point eligibility grid; everyone in the pool is then ranked by an Expression of Interest (EOI) score.

The eligibility gate
To be eligible to apply to Skilled Worker Overseas you must score at least 60 of 100 points on the Assessment Grid and have a Connection to Manitoba (a relative or friend in the province, prior Manitoba work of six months or more, or a completed Manitoba post-secondary program). A plan to settle outside Winnipeg adds points but is not, by itself, a Connection.
The EOI ranking score
Everyone who submits an Expression of Interest is ranked out of 1,000 points. Manitoba affinity is the largest factor at 500 points — an ongoing Manitoba job with a long-term offer, or an invitation under a Strategic Recruitment Initiative, can score the full 500 on its own. MPNP invites the highest-ranked and strategically targeted profiles from the pool.

What is the difference between the two MPNP grids?
MPNP uses two grids. The 100-point Assessment Grid is the eligibility gate — to apply to the Skilled Worker Overseas stream you must score at least 60 of 100 points AND have a Connection to Manitoba. The separate ~1,000-point Expression of Interest (EOI) ranking score is the competitive number that draw cut-offs are quoted in; the highest-ranked profiles in the pool are invited to apply.
What counts as a Connection to Manitoba?
A close relative or friend/distant relative living in Manitoba, previous work experience in Manitoba (6+ months), or a completed post-secondary program in Manitoba. A plan to settle outside Winnipeg adds points but does NOT by itself count as a Connection — every applicant needs one of the qualifying connections.
What EOI score do I need to get invited?
There is no single cut-off. MPNP holds regular draws and also runs occasional Strategic Recruitment Initiatives targeted at specific streams or occupations, so the minimum invited score varies from draw to draw. Use your EOI score to compare your profile over time, not as a fixed pass mark.
