What is the AAIP?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is Alberta's provincial nominee program (PNP). It lets Alberta nominate people who can fill the province's labour-market and economic needs for permanent residence, across two broad groups: worker streams and entrepreneur streams.
There are two ways an AAIP nomination reaches PR:
- Enhanced (Express Entry-linked) — through the Alberta Express Entry Stream, a nomination adds +600 CRS points to your federal Express EntryExpress Entry: Canada's online system for managing applications from three economic-class PR programs (CEC, FSW, FST), ranked by CRS score. profile, which effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA) at the next federal draw.
- Base (non-Express Entry) — for other streams, you apply to IRCC for PR directly with your nomination certificate, outside the Express Entry system.

Which AAIP stream is right for you?
A quick way to narrow it down:
- Already working in Alberta on a valid work permit? → Alberta Opportunity Stream.
- In the federal Express Entry pool in a healthcare, tech, law-enforcement, construction, agriculture or aviation occupation? → Alberta Express Entry Stream.
- Working for an employer in a designated rural community? → Rural Renewal Stream.
- Working in tourism or hospitality with a job offer? → Tourism and Hospitality Stream.

Worker streams
Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)
The AOS is for foreign workers already living and working in Alberta in the occupation they're being nominated for. Current eligibility:
- Job offer: a full-time offer or employment contract from an Alberta employer in your current occupation.
- Work permit: a valid permit authorizing you to work in Canada (LMIA-based, PGWP, or an eligible open work permit). Maintained status during processing or restoration status is not sufficient.
- Work experience: at least 12 months full-time (30+ hrs/week) in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or 24 months full-time in Canada/abroad within the last 30 months. PGWP holders need only 6 months in Alberta within the last 18 months.
- Language: minimum CLB 5 per skill for NOC TEER 0–3 occupations, CLB 4 for TEER 4–5 (nurse aides, NOC 33102, need CLB 7).
- Education: high-school equivalency or a Canadian credential (PGWP holders need an approved Alberta post-secondary credential).
- Residency: you must live and work in Alberta only — not elsewhere in Canada.
Alberta Express Entry Stream (AEE) — Enhanced
The AEE is Alberta's Express Entry-linked stream and the fastest route to PR if you're already in the pool. Core requirements:
- An active Express Entry profile meeting the criteria of the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades, or Federal Skilled Worker program.
- A minimum CRS score of 300 at the time of application and assessment.
- A primary occupation that fits one of Alberta's priority pathways or an identified provincial economic/sector/occupational priority.
Alberta's priority pathways in 2026 include a Dedicated Health Care Pathway (healthcare professionals, often with an eligible Alberta job offer), an Accelerated Tech Pathway (eligible tech occupations), a Law Enforcement Pathway (police-service NOCs 40040, 41310, 42100), and priority construction, agriculture, and aviation occupations.
A nomination here adds +600 CRS and typically leads to a federal ITA at the next draw — no separate provincial PR application is needed, since the Express Entry process handles it federally.

Rural Renewal Stream
For temporary workers with an eligible job offer from an employer in a designated rural community, endorsed by that community. Designed to direct newcomers to smaller Alberta communities with labour needs. Community-designation and endorsement rules were updated effective January 1, 2026 — confirm your community's status before relying on this route.
Tourism and Hospitality Stream
For foreign workers who live and work in Alberta and hold a full-time, eligible job offer in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Entrepreneur streams

2026 fees and updates
- $135 Worker EOI fee (from April 7, 2026). Submitting a Worker Expression of Interest now carries a $135 CAD fee. This is separate from IRCC's federal PR application and right-of-PR fees. Confirm current amounts on alberta.ca/aaip.

How to apply

- Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) — note the $135 fee for worker EOIs.
- Wait for a Notification of Interest (NOI) if Alberta selects your EOI from the pool.
- Apply for nomination within the deadline in your NOI, with full supporting documents.
- Receive your nomination, then either it's applied to your Express Entry profile (AEE, +600 CRS) or you apply to IRCC for PR directly (Base streams).

Does the Alberta PNP require a job offer?
Most worker streams do. The Alberta Opportunity, Tourism and Hospitality, and Rural Renewal streams all require an Alberta job offer. The Alberta Express Entry Stream selects from the federal pool and doesn't always require a standing job offer, but your occupation must match one of Alberta's priority pathways.
What is the minimum CRS score for the Alberta Express Entry Stream?
